Among Pomelos and Golden Hills 🍃✨

Hello everyone

These days, I’ve been helping my younger sister at her boat noodle shop , which closes twice a week. On her days off, she usually goes to Mae Sot Market to buy goods and household supplies that she delivers to her customers in Myanmar . That means I also get two days off each week — and today happens to be one of them 😊.

Before heading to the market this morning, my sister asked me to check on her pomelo orchard , which isn’t far from the house. This is the first year her trees have started bearing fruit 🍊. The orchard is located in Ban Chong Khaep , a village well-known for its large pomelo farms. The harvest season here begins around the end of the rainy season and the start of winter , when the fruits turn beautifully golden and fragrant.

My sister’s pomelo orchard covers about 12 rai of land, beautifully set on a gentle hillside 🌿. She started planting the trees several years ago, and this year marks the first harvest . Only a few trees have begun to bear fruit, mostly those growing along the outer edge of the orchard near the boundary line. The trees in the middle section didn’t survive the first round of planting, so she replaced them with new ones. That’s why most of the pomelo trees in the orchard are still quite young and small — just starting their journey of growth.

My sister told me that during the first year of fruiting , pomelos tend to grow large with thick skins , but the overall yield is still quite small.

Since there weren’t enough fruits to sell yet, I only picked a few fully ripened pomelos to take home 🍈. Their greenish-yellow color stood out beautifully among the leaves, and even though there were only a handful of them, it felt rewarding to see the result of years of her patience and care.

While walking around the orchard, I noticed something unusual on the ground — a deep hole hidden among the grass. At first, I thought it might be a snake hole 🐍, but upon closer look, it seemed more like a burrow made by some small animal living in the area. The countryside is full of surprises like this — every corner holds signs of nature quietly coexisting with the orchard’s life.

I took a quick photo before stepping away carefully, not wanting to disturb whatever creature might call it home. Encounters like these always remind me that even in a place full of cultivated trees, wildlife still finds its space to thrive .

Curious about the bright yellow stalks, I stepped closer to take a better look. They were tall, textured, and covered in tiny clustered seeds — quite striking against the green banana leaves 🌾. I wasn’t entirely sure what plant they were, but they looked fascinating, almost like nature’s own artwork.

In the quiet of the orchard, small discoveries like this remind me that there’s beauty in the simplest things. Even a walk through the field can reveal colors, shapes, and textures that surprise you if you take the time to notice them 🍃.

As I walked further, the orchard path led me to a wide cornfield on a hill nearby 🌽. The stalks had already turned golden brown, ready for harvest. Under the bright blue sky, the whole hill looked like it was covered in a golden blanket — simple, yet breathtaking in its own quiet way.

Even though the plants were dry, there was still a sense of life and movement — the wind rustling through the leaves, the distant hum of insects, and the warmth of the sun touching everything. It reminded me that beauty doesn’t always come from perfection, but from the natural rhythm of change and time .

As I stood there looking at the golden hillside, I felt a quiet sense of peace. Everything around me — the pomelo trees, the banana plants, the cornfields — told their own stories of growth, patience, and change . Life in the countryside moves slowly, but it’s full of meaning for those who take the time to notice 🌾.

Before heading home, I looked back one last time at the orchard. The sunlight glimmered on the leaves, the breeze carried the scent of soil and grass, and for a moment, everything felt perfectly still. Days like this remind me that happiness often hides in simple moments — in nature’s colors, in gentle winds, and in the quiet satisfaction of seeing things grow.

This visit to my sister’s orchard wasn’t just a walk among fruit trees — it was a reminder to slow down, to breathe, and to appreciate how beautiful ordinary days can be 🍃💛.
