"It comes from the Aramaic ‘etpatah,’ a passive imperative derived from the verb ‘petah,’ which means ‘to open.’ Jesus spoke this word in Mark 7:34 when He healed a deaf man. All the miracles, healings, and wonders that the Lord performed took place when Jesus spoke; He never used His mind to do so. Therefore, it is essential that we learn to use our mouths to declare or speak the Word of God.

In Chapter 7 of Mark, verses 31 through 36, we find the story of a man who could neither hear nor speak, and who was healed by Jesus. Verses 32 and 33 say: “They brought to him a deaf man who had difficulty speaking, and they asked him to lay his hands on him.”

What strikes me about this is how insistently they asked that hands be laid on him. Jesus acts in his own way, which often doesn’t align with our own ways or our expectations of how things should be. He doesn’t follow human protocols or methods to perform miracles. Jesus took him aside from the crowd to be alone with him…

In this story, I felt a connection with this man; I believe God wanted me to understand, through this Word, just how closed my ears were to Him.

A veces, sentimos que hemos perdido la capacidad de escuchar la Palabra de Dios. Sometimes, we feel as though we’ve lost the ability to hear God’s Word. There’s something in these verses that really struck me: Scripture mentions that “Jesus took him aside from the crowd.” What is it that God wants to do with you today in private—something that, in front of others, might seem strange and uncomfortable, like putting your fingers in your ears and spitting to touch your tongue? But He alone wants to bring healing to your life.

What he did in front of the whole world may seem strange, but this helps me understand why he acted that way—to lead this man to a place where he could receive the miracle he so desired, that blessing you long for. And to reflect a part of his own character. Today, the Lord desires to sanctify us; the word “

“Holy” implies being set apart. God wants to speak to us, and He has set us apart from the noise and distractions of the world to open our ears and allow us to hear what He has prepared for us. He is purifying our faith and guiding us to the place where we will see our blessings. He desires to eradicate sin.

These days, there are many distractions that try to capture our attention and block our ears. They also divert our gaze from what God wants to accomplish in our lives.

I have come to understand that I must turn to the Lord to ask for a miracle, but not to tell Him how to do it; during this time, He is setting me apart, and only He can give me blessings.

How many of us face obstacles that we need Jesus to resolve? I think we all need an “Ephphatha!” from Jesus in our lives. I’m one of the first to admit it—who says “Amen”? Who says “Amen”? Give the Lord a big round of applause.

So, listen carefully: Many of us still haven’t grasped the power of God’s Word. When we welcome the Lord into our lives, the Word begins to come alive. God’s Word is full of power; it doesn’t fade away over time—it endures, it is eternal, and it dwells within you.

The Word of God is alive and powerful; it is active—it is not a lifeless word. Every divine word always fulfills the purpose for which it was sent. In the book of Isaiah 55:10–11 it is written: “For just as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there without watering the earth and making it bud and grow, providing seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;

Many have not yet realized what God’s Word can do in their lives. Many of us long for a miracle, but we don’t understand God’s love for each one of us. Do we deserve what we’re going through? Of course, but He feels our pain—so much so that He groans and lifts His eyes to heaven. That moves me deeply. He wants to open your ears and loosen your tongue.
